Reeds Lake Run 2010
Saturday marked my 3rd Reeds Lake Run and Kevin’s 4th. The weather forecasts were calling for a 70% chance of rain for race time. When we woke up and saw that the ground was still dry, we thought maybe we’d make it. After all, the forecasts had been calling for rain all through Friday night and then all day Saturday. If it could just hold off a bit longer… and it did. The skies were cloudy at the start of the 5k, cloudier at the start of the 10k, and then blue, beautiful, and sunny for the rest of the day. Hmmm, looks like the weather guys were wrong… again!! But enough about the weather! Here’s a recap of the race!
Kevin was officially signed up for the 10k, but being my coach and the stellar hubby he is, he ran the 5k with me, as well! Isn’t he the best? He jumped out of the 5k just before the chute to the finish line, but if you add up the 2 races, it was a 9 mile morning for him. So, anyway, before I get ahead of myself, off we went!
Feeling pretty good as we approached the 1 mile mark.
(Yes, I ran carrying my iPhone. You’ll see why in a minute.)
Things that make you smile while running are always helpful:

(Blurry as Kevin took them while running… consider them action shots!)
A barefoot man dressed in a caveman outfit. (So easy a caveman can do it??)
And the band I look forward to every year just before the second mile mark.
They’re always rocking, AND they’re on a downhill. Perfection!
And FINISHED!!!!
Thanks to my trusty iPhone, I know that I ran 3.18 miles (not 3.1) and exactly how long it took me.
Oh, the joys of GPS at our fingertips!
For all you numbers people, my official time was 31:30.
We grabbed some Gatorade and strawberries before heading off to get Kevin to the starting line for the 10k.
And there he goes! Off again! The skies were dark, and it was a lot more humid for the start of the 10k…
which made me ever so glad I was done already!
Kevin in the last stretch before the finish line. His official time was 47:12.
After the 10k, it was off to the post-race party, which in our experience is the best post-race party there is! They have quite the spread: burgers, hotdogs, veggies, fruit, chips, soda/water, and frozen yogurt in the way of foodage. They also have a pretty rockin’ band to add to the party atmosphere. Oh, and balloon animals and airbrushed tattoos for the kiddies. And lest I forget, this year, the Whitecaps’ (our local minor league baseball team) mascot, Crash the River Rascal, came to join the fun!
